I'm guessing most of you have heard of the term 'superfood' before. But if you don't, that's ok; it essentially means 'extra healthy food'. To tell you the truth, if I was to list out all these so called 'superfoods' it will be quite long, and they will all be there for different reasons. So today, I just want to introduce you to 10 foods that I see from time to time in many 'best superfoods' lists, as well as how and why they can benefit your daily diet.

1. Avocados
Honestly guys. I have never seen a 'superfood' ranking without avocados. But don't worry; the hype is real.
Avocados are loaded with monounsaturated fats, in other words 'healthy fats'. If you are trying a non-fat or low-fat diet, this is the go-to-food now, because it will provide your body with benefits of fats such as brain productivity, lower risk of cancer and better cholesterol ratio - things that your body may be deprived of.
2. Salmon
Like avocados, this protein packed fish also have healthy fats in the form of omega 3 fatty acids. In addition, salmon is also proven by studies to protect your skin from UV light and skin cancer. Plus, Salmon just tastes good.
3. Sesame
Sesames are jam-packed with goodness. It lowers your 'bad' cholesterol levels, normalizes your blood pressure and even prevents cancer and diabetes. And the great thing is, they are so versatile. You can sprinkle them on your rice, add it to your salad dressing or just eat them directly. In fact, I eat a spoonful of ground black sesame every morning.
4. Flaxseed
Yes it's only a seed, but this little thing can do wonders for your body. It is packed with healthy fats, fibres, vitamin B6, copper, manganese and many other minerals. Plus, flaxseeds can help you get better skin and hair, and is often associated with weight loss.
5. Broccoli
Do not underestimate this humble vegetable. It is packed with minerals such as iron, potassium and calcium; vitamin A, C and K; and other goodies such as dietary fibre and antioxidant. This therefore makes broccoli a perfect agent for slowing aging, decreasing risks of many diseases and strengthening your body.
6. Quinoa
Quinoa is another superfood where the hype is real. It provides you with 8 grams of protein per one cup serving (if you don't know what that means, trust me, that's a lot). Even more importantly, it is one of the very few foods that are able to provide you with all 9 amino acids that our body cannot synthesize ourselves.
7. Greentea
Yes, something good can come out of your 'matcha latte'. Greentea is packed vitamin Bs and has the highest level of antioxidants among other leaves. It is therefore associated with preventing cancer, Alzheimer's disease and even tooth decay.
8. Almonds
If you don't eat almonds regularly, it's time to add it to your daily diet. Although all nuts are packed with nutrients, almonds are the most nutrition dense. It has the highest level of calcium, and it's also one of the best source for protein, fibre and vitamin E.
9. Garlic
Yes, you are probably eating superfoods more frequently than you think. Garlic is packed with vitamin C and B6, manganese, selenium and other antioxidants. Garlic is the best protection against blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, cancers and even regular cold. Therefore, Garlic is one of the best things to eat if you are feeling weak and on the verge of getting sick.
10. Dark Chocolate
Hands down my favorite superfood. Dark chocolate above 70% cacao, can be very beneficial for you. It is full of antioxidants, and is related to improving heart health. Dark chocolate is even known to stabilize and improve your mood. But while a block per day may be good, don't take this as a cue to shove an entire bar right away; it still is very high in sugar and fats.
So that's all for today guys. Next time you see these stuffs on a restaurant menu or in a supermarket, just remember some of these things and try it out. If you don't like, don't force yourself to eat it; there are many other superfoods that can probably give you the same benefits. But if you can, try putting few of these foods into your daily diet; trust me, it won't hurt.
See you next time!
