A common comment I hear among my peers is "I hate seafood" or "I hate fish". As a Japanese growing up eating fish, this is something that is quite mind boggling to me.
But here, I don't want to advocate for the consumption of fish just because I like sushi; instead I want to inform you why fish is named amongst the healthiest of foods!
1. Omega-3 fatty acids
Fish are loaded with healthy fats! These omega-3 fatty acids have been linked to reduced risk of heart diseases and strokes. In addition, healthy fats are also important in the development of your brain and eyes! (Not that eating fish will guarantee you an A* at maths.)
2. Live longer!
Yes, there is a reason why the Japanese have the highest average life expectancy! The nutrients in fish (including omega-3 fatty acids) reduce brain deterioration, and risk of mental disorder. This includes terrifying diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, bipolar disease to even depression.
3. Vitamin D
Fish is objectively speaking, the best source of vitamin D! It is important in strengthening your bones and supporting your growth.
4. Prevent diabetes
According to many studies, the various nutrients in fish including omega-3 fatty acid and fish oil are also linked to preventing type 1 diabetes! Don't take my word? Go search up some scientific studies! You will find many!
5. Improve your sleep!
Again, according to several studies, consumption of fish has been linked to better sleep. In particular, one 6-months study involving 95 middle aged men have shown that eating salmon 3 times a week led to improvement in sleep and better daily functioning of the body.
So that's a wrap guys! I don't want to force anyone into eating fish, but do keep in mind that you are missing out on a great nutrient source (that also tastes delicious)!
See you next time!
